Examining Arrogance

Pride, one of the seven deadly sins, also known as arrogance can take everything good away from your life and trick you into believing it is protecting you from everything unworthy or inferior.

I can comfortably say this as I have often been deceived by my arrogant egoistic self, only to alienate myself from all that is good and meaningful in my life. I have lost many things from close friendships to career opportunities, and most importantly opportunities to be kind, respectful, and compassionate to myself or others around me.

In todays world, we must examine our own arrogance, as this one can pull wool over our eyes to make us seem superior or so much better than everyone else. Arrogance of wealth is front page these days with the so called billionaires calling all the shots in many countries.

When one has more money than others being able to afford more than the average person, one can push their way forward to lead and allow their voices to be loudest. Wealth bring power. Even if it means they have not educated themselves, or self reflected to be the best leader or have the best choice of words in their voice, they may only have their own selfish interest in mind, squashing everyone else, they are simply wealthy and powerful.

Today I urge you to examine how arrogance may be guiding your life, how it is able to pull your strings so you believe in your superiority compared to others around you. If you do see it operating in harmful ways to alienate yourself or shun others, examine how you may bring yourself back in to a state of humility and equality to work together with others, and see yourself as equals. Do this despite the number in your bank account, or the accolades you list on LinkedIn.
